Somatic Therapy

Have you heard the saying "Trauma lives in the body," believe it, and are ready to address it? Are you critical of oppressive power structures within the therapy world (and in your day to day life)? People who see me for therapy may be struggling with the impacts of complex, childhood, collective, or intergenerational trauma. They might be tired of anxiety running their life. Maybe they have a hard time with relationships, but deep down really want connection. Perhaps they've simply hit a plateau in talk therapy, or they need someone to help them make sense of an ineffable psychedelic experience who’s been there and gets it.

My work as a therapist sits on the foundation of an undergrad degree in Women's and Gender Studies, and my personal experience as a complex trauma survivor. As a trans* Feminist, I see the ways in which cultural and structural influences like capitalism, white supremacy, and patriarchy create adversity and contribute to what society views as “mental illness.” I center your ancestors’ collective strengths and struggles, and what they have gone through to allow you the opportunity to heal. I’m not here to view you through the lens of a diagnosis, and I will never ask you to explain or validate your identity to me (you likely do that enough in day-to-day life). I practice somatics because that’s what helped me truly shift from surviving to thriving, and I believe that embodiment is a political act. When we are embodied in belonging together, this offers a place to view the world differently, to inspire and allow us to see what's truly possible.

I believe wholeheartedly that the expert on you is you. I am here to help you find what you already know but haven’t realized yet - the things about you that are strong, resilient, and bright, even if you feel lost in the dark. Everyone has their own inner healer who knows the way - they just need to feel safe and present enough to hear it. To help you connect with your inner healer, I offer somatic modalities which means we will center your present moment body experience and focus healing from the bottom up, rather than analyzing your thoughts and feelings and hoping for something to shift from the top down. Through this, you’ll recognize the ways your body has learned to create wise, adaptive survival strategies. These things may no longer be serving you, but that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. I am a compassionate gentle guide who can help you feel like somebody. I would be honored to help you find what’s right with you.
